  • Nebraska flood: One of many
    The Blooms, who have been farming and ranching in the Scotia area for at least three generations, have not had to evacuate, but they are dealing with a big loss. At least 32 newborn calves have been lost and possibly more will fall to the stress of the storm.
  • South Dakota posts the largest gain in calf numbers
    South Dakota posted the largest year-over-year gain (up 202,000 calves), followed by Oklahoma (up 189,000) from 2008-2018.

    Due to the excessive snow, Thorstenson Herefords has rescheduled its sale for Friday, May 3, 2019 1:00 PM CDT At the Ranch, Selby, SD

    DBL Inc. has postponed their 8th Annual Bull & Female Sale due to flooding. Their new sale date is April 18, 2019, at the Bull Lodge, Fullerton, NE

    Wulf Cattle Opportunity Sale originally planned for Tuesday, March 19th has been postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, April 16th.  Cattle viewing and the sale seminar will be held on Monday, April 15th. 

    3C/NLC will host its sale on March 22, 1 p.m. at the ranch, Wessington, S.d.

    Due to weather Zeisler Charolais has postponed their sale to Friday, March 22, 2019, 1 pm CST at the Ranch, Butte, NE

    Mogck Angus Farms has postponed their 31st Annual Production Sale to Tuesday, April 16, 2019, 1 pm at the Farm in Tripp, SD
    Effertz Key Ranch has postponed their annual sale originally scheduled for this Thursday until Saturday, March 30, at Rugby Livestock, Rugby, ND.

    Lensegrav Ranch has postponed their Hybrid Vigor Bull Sale until Saturday, March 16, 1:30 p.m. at Faith Livestock, Faith, SD


  • South Dakota lawmakers say meat is “meat” not lab-grown protein
    The bill reserves the term, “meat,” to be used only for protein harvested from animal carcasses, by amending the adulterated and misbranded food chapter of the South Dakota Codified Law code section 39 - 4 to further define the term “meat.”
