A week of cattle shows and sales came to a close on Feb. 2 with the selection of the Supreme Champions at the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, S.D. 

The stock show is the state’s second largest event, falling only to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Farm and ranch people along with urban counterparts made the 2019 stock show a big success once again.

A highlight of the stock show is the display of ten cattle breeds during the highly anticipated Supreme Row judging. Jon Millar of Millar Angus, Sturgis, S.D. served as emcee of the event while judges were Steve Reimer of Chamberlain, S.D.; Joshua Mohnen of White Lake, S.D. and Bryce McKenzie of Buffalo, Wyo. 

Black Hills Stock Show Supreme Champion Bull was the Charolais from the Thomas Ranch of Harrold, S.D. TR MR OUTSIDER 7789E ET is an August 2017 son of M&M OUTSIDER 4003 PLD and TR MS WYOMING WIND 5604R. He sold to Joel Deering, Cheyenne Charolais of Wasta, S.D. for $10,500. 

BHSS Supreme Champion Female was the Red Angus from Weber Land & Cattle and Allyson Beninga, Lake Benton, MN. WEBR EXPECTATION 7104 is an April 2017 daughter of PZC TMAS FIREBOLT 3397A and BRRA EXPECTATION 2008. She sold to Windy Creek Cattle Co, Spencer, SD for $16,000. She was also the highest selling female of the stock show. 

High selling bull was the Angus consignment from Chestnut Angus Farm, Pipestone, MN. CHESTNUT EPIC 228 is a January 2018 son of 3F EPIC 4631 and CHESTNUT PF WINNIE 628. He sold for $40,000 to Bruce Cuddy of Albemarle, N.C. 

Winning the use of a trailer was the Shorthorn heifer from Bill and Debra Mack, Harrison, NE. MACKLUX SABRINA 888 is a March 2018 daughter of WAUKARU LUXOR 4106 and MACK MELODY 988. She sold to Tom Gorzalka, Clearmont, WY for $3,200.
