National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week ending Mar. 10th

Slaughter cattle traded steady to 2.00 higher, most advance in the north. Beef prices continue strong thus enticing packers to buy. Cattle continue to stay well ahead of the April futures contractand this entices the feeder to sell. So far very healthy for the business as feedyards are remaining current as well. Boxed Beef prices as of Friday afternoon averaged 215.41 up 9.35 from last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is 8.84. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday afternoon totaled about 117,624 head. Last week’s total head count was 157,282 head.
