A 72-year tradition continues in Watertown, SD when the doors open Tuesday, February 7, 2017 for the Watertown Winter Farm Show.

This annual event, set for Feb. 7-11, is expected to draw individuals and families from around the region for activities ranging from educational sessions on farm family business to tracing and preserving family history.

In recent years, the Watertown Winter Farm Show has drawn upwards of 30,000 people to see the livestock shows and sales, attend home and family programs and visit with nearly 150 commercial vendors, said Megan Olson, president and CEO of the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We truly offer something for everyone,” said Olson. “People can learn about the latest in ag technology and see the finest quality livestock from the three-state area.”

Commercial booth exhibit hours are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in both the Codington County Extension Complex and adjacent Park & Rec Fieldhouse. A free shuttle service is provided each day to bring people from their cars in the parking lot to the facility doors.

Each year the Chamber Ag Committee, which organizes this annual event, honors someone who has spent years contributing to its success by dedicating the farm show to their name. This year, Keith Mack of Watertown, a long-standing Ag Committee member, will be so honored. The dedication will be held at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday (February 8) in the Livestock Show Ring.

In addition to quality livestock shows and sales, the state crop show and educational presentations, there will be daily “make and take” classes offered in the Park & Rec Fieldhouse. The classes will range from painting to stained glass projects to making goat soap.

A legislative cracker barrel is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday (February 11) in the Park & Rec Fieldhouse.

Other 2017 program highlights include sessions on a variety of healthcare topics, quilting, olive oil tasting, tree planting, preserving family history and a session with local author, Jerry Nelson, who will discuss his book, Dear County Agent Guy.
